The topic of symmetry is pure romance. If you want to be literal about it, nothing is symmetrical. I surely have at least one more atom in my right hand than my left, or visa-versa. Thankfully, such pedantry isn't really even necessary. It is common that one leg or arm might be longer, a foot or hand bigger. Ask a girl going through puberty about symmetry, she might have a far less romantic view about the design and development of her body.
As always, religion is best supported by narrowing your field of view, never widening it.
Why would an animal evolve without regard for symmetry? Symmetry is what gives us balance, power, and coordination. You may see something special and divine, I can't imagine why the biosphere would have turned out any other way.
For ~4.5 billion years everything on this earth has had a force of 9.8m/s^2 exerted on it. Why wouldn't there be symmetry?
