An Israeli researcher suggests the biblical Israelites who followed Moses may have been inspired by substances closer to earth, according to a Reuters report. Benny Shanon, a psychology professor at Jerusalem's Hebrew University, writes that the ancient Jews may have been high on a hallucinogenic plant when the prophet delivered the Ten Commandments down from Mount Sinai, Reuters reported. The thunder, lightning and blaring of a trumpet recorded in the Book of Exodus could have been the imaginings of a people in an "altered state of awareness," from two plants found in the Sinai desert, Shanon writes in the British journal "Time and Mind," said Reuters. Sharon writes in 'Time and Mind' that the two plants contains psychoactive molecules as those found in the powerful Amazonian hallucinogenic brew ayahuasca, reported Reuters. Shanon writes that he has "partaken of the ... brew about 160 times in various locales and contexts."

"On such occasions, one often feels that in seeing the light, one is encountering the ground of all Being ... many identify this power as God," Shanon says. Orthodox rabbi Yuval Sherlow told Israel Radio: "The Bible is trying to convey a very profound event. We have to fear not for the fate of the biblical Moses, but for the fate of science."

LIZ Wrote "The bible was written by man, as in by hand, but it was instructed by God. Besides, if God didn't exist and some men wrote the Bible, why would they write a work not giving power to themselves?"

Where is your proof of this Liz? What you are saying really makes no sense. The Bible is an edited volume which has many, many books and scriptures which have been removed. To say the bible is written by man under Gods instructions is quiet frankly lunacy and you are delusional to think that way. The only reason you are saying this is because you were told it again and again and again. 'Brain washing' I think they call it.

Thousands of years ago people couldn't explain the heavens and stars etc. They imagined that someone somewhere must have created everything. It had to be the only explanation to them.

You are obviously a Christian and there are many other religions out there. You all cant be correct!!

Jesus original message was that the end of the world is near (to happen within a lifetime) when a cosmic figure, the Son Of Man, will come to earth and judge us all. Then the rightous will live in the Kingom of Heaven HERE ON EARTH. There were two problems with this: firstly, he went and got himself killed. Secondly, he has something im common with every other person that has predicted the end of the world...he was wrong. So his followers changed his message to the "believing in the ressurection is the path to salvation." If Jesus knew how they have completely changed his teachings, he'd be spinning in his grave.

Face it, if he existed at all, he was just another in a long stream of appocolyptic prophets.

All religions can't be right because only one is. MINE! I am not delusional and I have not been brainwashed. Yes, the Bible has been translated many times, but it still has it's original context. Notice that I have yet to call any of you lunatics or delutional?

God is to the foundational principles of the universe, as the numeral one is to the foundations of mathematics. Both God and the numeral One are abstract enough concepts that you can't directly point at something in 'reality' and say over there, behind that tree, one is there and exists behind that tree. So what is existence? Is existence simply typing the numerals 'one' and writing it into existence, or writing the word 'God' and writing God into existence? It would appear not, even though the concepts of 'oneness' and 'godness' seem divorced from reality it cannot deny them their principles of being real in our lives, try balancing your checkbook without the numeral 'one' let alone type one a computer that is built in principle of 'ones' and 'zeros'. God is more then a 'Christian-God', 'Jewish-God', or 'Buddhist-God', etc... the force or entity we refer to when we speak of the 'God' transcends all of these categories and becomes all of them and so much more that science has yet to comprehend..God is to the foundation of existence, as oneness is to the foundation of Mathematics.

In the interest of clarity it would be appropriate when using the word God to specify his name. There are thousands of gods in mythology and they all had names.

We share similar Gods, different by name, but I believe my religion is right.

GOD IS REAL. HOW CAN YOU READ ACTUAL DOCUMENTATION AND NOT SEE WHAT IS RIGHT UNDER YOUR NOSE!!! THIS BOOK MIGHT HAVE SOME HISTORICAL IMPORTANCE, BUT MY GOD IS A REAL GOD AND I DON'T THINK THAT ANY HIPPOCRATICAL AVTHOR CAN HONESTLY READ THAT BOOK WITH AN OPEN MIND AND NOT THINK THAT IT'S ANYTHING BUT THE TRUTH? HOW CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE COMPLEXITY OF THE HUMAN BODY AND THE NATURAL MIRICAL OF BIRTH? IS THERE REALLY ANOTHER WAY TO CREATE A SOUL????[:X]
