This is more than cultural thinking or brainwashing as many would claim. I think you can look at the questions of an innocent child. They say, " where did i come from?" or "why am i here?" "who is God, and where did he come from?" Why are they even bringing this up if we were not preprogrammed to say " where did this all come from and why is it here?"
These questions are a product of an intelligence born of necessity. We thrive by our ability to understand our environment and take advantage of its resources in the most efficient manner achievable. Within this context, these questions are ultimately meaningless regardless of how profound they may feel -- these questions may not have answers.
Jimbo, I ask you, as I have many times before, what is north of the north pole? Why do you demand that any question which is formulated must have a reasonable and relevant answer? Asking questions gives you wisdom and knowledge, experience if you will, but it rarely gives you answers. Questions often tend to lead to more questions, which is why people like me choose not to give up the search for truth and settle with emotionally comforting delusions which are actively promoted and deemed virtuous in society.
The travesty that occurs on a daily basis is that children all over the world ask questions like these and the answer they are given is, "God." as if it answers the question. What we are in fact doing is training humans to be cogs in the machine, to be cookie-cutter people. We break the spirit of our own people just as we break a horse, reputation and fear brutal consequences -- this is not virtuous, this is the human tragedy. We bear our children into this world and tell them a story which places them in debt to a deity, and by extension, society. This is a matter of control, which is why it is not the least bit surprising that theists like you act as if your ideology is your own.
